Drills and Exercises

Both the ISPS Code and the MTSA regulations require that ships and port facilities conduct drills at least quarterly (and sooner if a vessel experiences crew turnover of more that 25%), as well as at least one exercise each calendar year (but no more than 18 months apart). The MTSA regulations require OCS facilities to conduct drills and exercises with the same frequency as port facilities.

Our maritime security experts develop cost-effective, yet realistic, drills and exercises. One particularly effective and realistic test is the hard security challenge. All MPS drills and exercises, however, provide not only the scenarios and administrative assistance, but also immediate feedback (“hot wash up”) and subsequent written analysis and evaluation, as well as required compliance documentation. If security plan amendments are indicated, we can help you with those, too.

Drills and exercises reinforce training, as well as test the security plan. They are, therefore, especially effective when conducted in conjunction with formal training courses for security or other personnel. Contact us to develop a custom solution for your needs.
